DESCRIPTION
Ritchie Yorke was an Australian-born author, broadcaster, historian, and music journalist, whose work was widely published in the U.S., UK, Canada, and elsewhere.
He was born in 1944 in Brisbane Australia. In 1966, Yorke moved to London, where he worked for Island Records and managed international promotions for the Spencer Davis Group. During this period, he authored this, his first book, Lowdown on the English Pop Scene, which provided insights into the British music industry of the 1960s.
The book offered a comprehensive overview of the English pop scene, including artist profiles, cultural context, industry analysis, and behind-the-scenes anecdotes. It served as a valuable resource for understanding the dynamics of the British music landscape during that era.
Among others, he talks about The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Walker Brothers, The Spencer Davis Group, Procul Harum, Dusty Springfield, Chris Farlowe, Herman's Hermits, Paul Jones, Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich, The Dave Clark Five, Peter and Gordon, The Hollies, Cilla Black, Wayne Fontana, The Move, The Seekers, Cliff Richard, Kiki Dee, The Searchers, PJ Proby, The Shadows, Manfred Mann, The Easybeats, Cat Stevens, Sandie Shaw, The Yardbirds, The Kinks, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Steve Winwood, The Cream, Tom Jones, Donovan, The Troggs, Eric Burdon and The Animals, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, The Small Faces, Petula Clark, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Georgie Fame, and The Who.
